Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his appreciation for government schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana during the inauguration of the Natural Farming Conclave held at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra. The Chief Minister highlighted the significant support these initiatives provide to states like Assam, which grapple with perennial floods. He emphasized that the scheme has played a vital role in protecting farmers from the recurring flood crisis.

As part of the conclave, an exhibition showcasing organic products from local entrepreneurs was inaugurated by Governor Devvrat and Chief Minister Sarma. This exhibition served as a platform to highlight the importance of sustainable agricultural practices and support local organic entrepreneurs.

Over the past three seasons, more than 3 lakh farmers in Assam have received financial assistance amounting to Rs 236 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. Chief Minister Sarma underscored the importance of this scheme, highlighting that the central and state governments bear the premium cost, while farmers are required to pay a nominal amount of only Rs 100 as interest. This step towards economic security for farmers is highly commendable.

In a further boost to the agricultural community, the Chief Minister announced that the state government will provide a subsidy of Rs 5 per litre to farmers who sell their milk through cooperative societies. This move aims to support dairy farmers and encourage their participation in cooperative systems.

Grateful for the organization of the Natural Farming Conclave by the agriculture department, Chief Minister Sarma emphasized the significance of natural farming as an alternative agricultural practice. He acknowledged that while modern inorganic farming may yield higher outputs, it often leads to soil degradation and environmental harm. The Assam government is committed to promoting natural farming as a means to increase agricultural production and double farmers' income.

Chief Minister Sarma urged farmers to embrace natural farming as a people's movement (Jan Andolan) and make Assam a model state in this regard. By adopting natural farming practices, the state can pave the way for improved health and prosperity.

The conclave was inaugurated by Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat, who ceremoniously lit the lamp. Agriculture Minister Atul Bora and several agriculture scientists and progressive farmers also graced the event with their presence.

The Natural Farming Conclave and the government's emphasis on organic farming demonstrate Assam's commitment to sustainable agriculture practices and the welfare of its farmers. Through initiatives like the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and the promotion of natural farming, the state aims to empower its farming community and ensure their prosperity amidst challenges.
