Agriculture Dept Launches QR Code-based System for Transparent Seed and Equipment Distribution

The agriculture department in Mysuru district has taken a significant step towards ensuring transparency and accountability in the distribution of seeds and farm equipment. In a first-of-its-kind initiative in the state, the department has introduced a QR code-based system at the Raitha Samparka Kendras for tracking purchases made by farmers. This novel approach allows for streamlined operations while safeguarding against fake beneficiaries.

With the onset of the monsoon season, farming activities have commenced in Mysuru district. To support the farmers during this crucial period, every commodity, including seeds, available at the Raitha Samparka Kendras, is now equipped with QR codes containing detailed information such as the batch number and manufacturer.

The implementation of QR codes has yielded several benefits for the agriculture department. By scanning the QR codes on seed bags or equipment, bills are directly generated in the name of farmers based on their Aadhaar number or Aadhaar-seeded mobile number. This process not only facilitates accurate billing but also helps eliminate fraudulent claims. In case of any complaints or issues, the department can easily trace the responsible parties with the comprehensive information stored in the QR codes.

Authorities within the agriculture department have expressed their satisfaction with the new system, citing improved transparency and accountability. BS Chandrashekar, the joint director of the agriculture department, emphasized the significance of this technological advancement, especially in the context of farming operations gearing up for the monsoon. The QR code system ensures that farmers have access to genuine and reliable agricultural inputs.

In response to the delayed arrival of monsoon rains in some parts of the district, farmers have made strategic adjustments in their cultivation plans. Cotton cultivation has been partially replaced with sunflower cultivation to optimize the use of available resources. The initial sowing target for sunflowers was set at 2,715 hectares. However, due to the proactive efforts of officials in ensuring early supply, sunflower seeds have already been sown across more than 4,590 hectares.

Farmers' organizations, such as the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS), have lauded the agriculture department's endeavors to support farmers. The president of KRRS, Badagalapua Nagendra, expressed satisfaction with the availability of sufficient stock at Raitha Samparka Kendras. He praised the department's proactive approach in addressing farmers' needs and ensuring the smooth procurement of seeds and fertilizers.

As the QR code-based system revolutionizes the distribution process, Mysuru's agricultural community looks forward to enhanced efficiency, transparency, and accountability. This technology-driven approach is set to empower farmers and contribute to the overall growth of the agricultural sector in the district.
