Agricultural Department Gears Up to Ensure Timely Supply of Seeds, and Fertilizers for Kharif Farming
The Minister ensured farmers received ample seeds and fertilizers for Kharif farming, along with measures to prevent the sale of fake agricultural products. Furthermore, several minor irrigation projects will aid year-round farming in the Udupi district.
The Agriculture Minister, N. Cheluvarayaswamy, expressed the government's willingness to consider the proposal to establish an agricultural college in Brahmavara, Karnataka.
This decision came in response to demands made by K. Jayaprakash Hegde, the Chairman of the Karnataka State Permanent Backward Classes Commission, and Yashpal Suvarna, an MLA from Udupi, during the inauguration of the Krishi Mela. The event was organized by the Department of Agriculture and various stakeholders at ICAR Krishi Kendra, located near Brahmavara in Cherkadi.
Suvarna emphasized the importance of boosting agricultural activities in the district by establishing an agricultural college within the 350-acre Krishi Kendra.
In his address, Minister Cheluvarayaswamy highlighted the government's consistent support for farmers in their agricultural pursuits. He emphasized that agriculture can be a profitable vocation when pursued with passion, dedication, and integrity. The Minister cited numerous successful farmers as examples of this. In addition to its profitability, agriculture also provides employment opportunities, enabling people to achieve self-sufficiency.

Minister Cheluvarayaswamy expressed his intention to engage in discussions with department officials and the agricultural university regarding the proposed agricultural college.
Minister Cheluvarayaswamy also highlighted the government's commitment to ensuring the timely and adequate supply of seeds and fertilizers for Kharif farming. Stringent measures have been taken to curb the sale of counterfeit agricultural products. A substantial budget has been allocated for the establishment of Krishi Yanatradhare Kendras.
Moreover, the department is providing a generous subsidy of ₹10,000 per hectare to farmers who are involved in cultivating Siri Dhanyas. To further support farmers, agricultural and horticultural universities in Karnataka routinely provide valuable guidance on crop selection, soil fertility assessment, and the selection of high-yield crop varieties.
The government has plans to implement a suitable number of minor irrigation projects in the district to facilitate year-round farming for farmers in Udupi. This initiative will be carried out in collaboration with the Minister for Minor Irrigation and the Deputy Chief Minister.

Jayaprakash Hegde stressed the importance of disseminating research findings from agricultural scientists to the farming community. He encouraged farmers to adopt these suggestions to improve the profitability of their farming practices. The event also featured the felicitation of progressive farmers and individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of agriculture.
The gathering was attended by several dignitaries, including Narayana Naik, the President of Cherkadi Gram Panchayat, R.C. Jagadeesh, Vice Chancellor of Keladi Shivappa Nayaka Agricultural and Horticultural University, Lakshmana, Associate Director of Brahmavara Krishi Kendra, Seetha, Joint Director of Agriculture, and other distinguished guests.
