In a collaborative effort to address the challenges faced by the AgriTech sector and promote sustainable food security, the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) and Hub71 have signed an agreement. The partnership aims to connect businesses with technology-based startups, facilitate mentorship programs, and build a strong network of AgriTech stakeholders in Abu Dhabi.

By leveraging innovative agricultural solutions and fostering a sustainable future, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) seeks to solidify its position as a global destination for agricultural technologies and achieve a leading position in the Global Food Security Index by 2051.

ADAFSA and Hub71 Collaboration:

The agreement was signed by Dr Mariam Harib AlSuwaidi, Deputy Director-General of operational affairs at ADAFSA, and Ahmad Ali Alwan, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Hub71. ADAFSA and Hub71 aim to address the challenges faced by the AgriTech sector by connecting businesses with startups that offer technology-based solutions. The collaboration aligns with the UAE's ambitions for a more sustainable future that safeguards its land and resources. Through mentorship programs and networking initiatives, startups will have the opportunity to engage with experts and foster partnerships with businesses, academia, and government entities.

The UAE's Leading Position in Global Food Security:

The UAE has emerged as a leader in the Middle East and North Africa region in the Global Food Security Index (GFSI) for 2022. It has climbed 12 places from 2021, securing the 23rd rank in the overall GFSI. The country ranks 31st in food affordability, 7th in food availability, 16th in food safety and quality, and 53rd in sustainability and adaptation sub-indicators. The National Food Security Strategy aims to establish a comprehensive national system for sustainable food production and secure the leading position in the global food security index by 2051.

ADAFSA's Perspective:

Saeed Al Bahri Al Ameri, Director-General of ADAFSA, expressed delight in collaborating with Hub71 to attract international AgriTech companies to Abu Dhabi. The partnership aims to support food security and achieve first place in the Food Security Index by 2051. Al Ameri highlighted Hub71 as a key initiative of "Ghadan 21," Abu Dhabi's accelerator program designed to foster innovation and diversify the emirate's development. The partnership will reinforce Abu Dhabi's position as a global destination for agricultural technologies in desert environments, focusing on innovative solutions for soil, water, and climate challenges. International businesses and thinkers are encouraged to take advantage of the programs and incentives offered by the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

The Importance of Contemporary Agricultural Technology:

According to Al Ameri, the adoption of contemporary agricultural technology aligns with the sustainability principles embraced by Abu Dhabi and the UAE governments. Such technology offers practical solutions to address climate change challenges while optimizing natural resource usage, increasing productivity, and enhancing supply chain efficiency. The collaboration between ADAFSA and Hub71 marks a strategic step towards promoting sustainable food security and fostering innovation throughout the value chain, from producers to consumers.

Hub71 will identify and select leading AgriTech startups worldwide, offering them access to the ecosystem's company-building program and ADAFSA's state-of-the-art.
