Types of Sowing Equipment in India 2022
Crop planting operations entail planting seed or tubers at a predetermined depth in the soil. Farmers in India used traditional methods to sow seeds, such as broadcasting, sowing with a bull or a manually operated seed drill, and drawing a line in the field for laborers to sow according to. To alleviate all of these issues, farm mechanization should provide machines that sow uniformly, on time, and at a low cost. Sowing equipment refers to machines that place seed in the soil and cover it in a specific row. This sowing machinery differs from one another according to the seeds of different crops. Sowing equipment is classified into several types, such as seed drills and planters. Some seed drills and planters are discussed below.

1. Seed-cum-Fertilizer Drill
The Seed-cum-Fertilizer Drill comes with a seed box and a fertilizer box. The Seed and Fertilizer Rate Adjusting Lever assists in maintaining an appropriate seed and fertilizer ratio. Receive seeds into longitudinal grooves in the seed box using fluted rollers, then drop seeds into the seed tube, which is finished with a furrow opener. In this seed -cum - fertilizer drill, a reversible shovel type furrow opener is used.
The length of grooves exposed to the seed can be increased or decreased by shifting the roller sideways, and thus the amount of seed sown can be varied. Wheat and other cereal crops can be sown with a seed -cum- fertilizer drill.
2. Zero-Till Drill
The frame, seedbox, fertilizer box, fertilizer metering mechanism, seed tubes, furrow opener, and transport cum power transmitting wheel are all included in the Zero - Till Drill. The frame is constructed of mild steel sections. The tynes are equipped with clamps to achieve infinite row spacing.
The main difference between a zero-till drill and a conventional drill is that it has an inverted T - type furrow opener, which aids in clod reduction, lower draught requirements, and easier soil penetration. Zero-till drills are used after harvesting paddy to sow wheat in an unprepared field, lowering the initial cost for land or bed preparation.
3. Tractor-Mounted Ridger Seeder
A seed hopper, a fertilizer hopper, a seed metering mechanism, a fertilizer metering mechanism, a drive system, drive wheels, a hitch system, ridge bodies, a furrow opener, a transport wheel, and a strong frame made of mild steel sections comprise this seed drill. The ridge body is made up of two mouldboards with a share mounted in the front. The ridge's wingspan can be adjusted to vary the width of the furrow and ridge.
The chain and sprocket system provides power to seed and fertilizer metering units from the ground wheel. The ridge bodies on which the seed is sown form flat-topped ridges during operation. This seeder is used to create ridges and furrows and to sow on the ridges or furrows.
4. Tractor Drawn Cultivator Seeder
This type of seed drill is a tractor-mounted cultivator attachment for direct sowing of paddy in dryland conditions. A seedbox, seed metering disc, ground wheel, cultivator shovel, furrow closer, clutch lever, power drive system, and frame are included.
The seed metering mechanism is made up of discs with cups mounted near their periphery. During operation, the discs rotate and the cup collects rice seeds. This new implement is used for paddy sowing in dryland conditions.
