Shri Prabhu Dayal's Journey:

Shri Prabhu Dayal, a 55-year-old farmer from the village of Khiriya in Lalitpur District, Uttar Pradesh, owned 5.0 hectares of land dedicated to mono-cropped wheat. Selected as a Progressive Farmer by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Lalitpur, he participated in On-Farm Testing during 2018-19. Provided with 40 kg of improved Kathia Wheat variety HI-8713 (Pusa Mangal) seeds and technical guidance, Shri Prabhu Dayal embarked on his journey with the new variety.

Impressive Results:

Shri Prabhu Dayal cultivated the improved Kathia Wheat variety on one acre while continuing to grow the local Kathia variety on another acre. The improved variety showcased outstanding performance, yielding 20.8 quintals per hectare. With a market price of Rs. 2,500 per quintal, Shri Prabhu Dayal earned a gross income of Rs. 52,000 from the demonstration plot. After deducting the cost of cultivation, he achieved a net income of Rs. 40,800 per acre from the improved variety.

Expansion of Cultivation:

Encouraged by his success, Shri Prabhu Dayal expanded his cultivation of Kathia Wheat. In the subsequent years, he cultivated 20.0 hectares of his own and leased land, while an additional 110 hectares were covered by Kathia Wheat in nearby villages. The total production from his farm reached an impressive 500 quintals, resulting in a gross income of Rs. 12.5 lakhs.

Transformation and Prosperity:

Within a span of three years, Shri Prabhu Dayal witnessed a remarkable transformation in his wheat cultivation. The area under Kathia Wheat increased from 1 acre to 50 hectares, leading to a substantial rise in production and a significant growth in gross income.
