Punjab Farmer Earns Rs 2 Lakh per Acre from Capsicum Farming in 6 Months
This village boasts over 1,000 acres dedicated to capsicum cultivation, making it the largest capsicum-growing hub in the Malwa region.
In an effort to promote crop diversification, the farmers of Bhaini Bagha village in Mansa have set an inspiring example by shifting their focus to capsicum cultivation, significantly boosting their agricultural income.
Motivated by the returns offered by bell pepper farming, local farmers have made the transition to capsicum cultivation. Nearly every household in the village now dedicates at least one acre of land to grow this vegetable. Their commitment to quality has attracted wholesale buyers from various states, including Delhi, Rajasthan, and Punjab, thus enhancing their market reach.
Estimates indicate that Bhaini Bagha village has devoted more than 1,000 acres of land to capsicum cultivation, making it the leading capsicum producer in the entire Malwa region.

Gora Singh Bhani Bagha, a farmer in the village, shared his experience, stating that he has cultivated capsicum on five acres of land this year due to its promising returns. The cost of capsicum cultivation per acre amounts to approximately Rs 1 lakh, covering expenses such as labor, high-quality seeds, chemicals, and other inputs. Farmers can yield over 200 quintals of produce per acre with favorable growing conditions, translating to earnings of more than Rs 2 lakh per acre within six months.
Bhaini Bagha village has shifted its focus to capsicum cultivation. Virtually every household in the town now allocates at least one acre of land to cultivate this vegetable. Their full commitment to quality has created the interest of wholesale buyers hailing from various states, including Delhi, Rajasthan, and Punjab, thereby expanding their market outreach significantly.
Another farmer emphasized that the high market prices of capsicum were the driving force behind their decision to cultivate it. The remarkable success story of capsicum farming has not only revolutionized the lives of local farmers but has also served as a source of inspiration for those in neighboring villages such as Tamkot, Khokhar Kalan, Burj, and Jhande Kalan, who are now eager to join on their own capsicum cultivation journeys.

Naib Singh, yet another farmer, highlighted that the region's climate and soil conditions are exceptionally conducive to capsicum farming, resulting in abundant yields at relatively low production costs. He also noted with satisfaction that the absence of pest attacks in the previous year had promised a good capsicum harvest. The cultivation area for capsicum continues to expand each year, as an increasing number of farmers acknowledge its profitability and resilience.
Mansa Deputy Commissioner Baldeep Kaur extended her appreciation to these visionary farmers who broke free from the conventional wheat-paddy cycle to adopt capsicum farming. She highlighted that this transition not only benefits the environment but also significantly boosts the economic prospects of these farmers. She urged other farmers to take a similar path, adopt this proven model, and ultimately enhance their income.
