Jaivik Award Winner Padmaja Inspires Over 150 Farmers to Adopt Natural Farming
Her approaches and successful outcomes served as an inspiration for the villagers, leading more than 150 fellow farmers in her community to adopt similar practices and embrace natural farming methods.
Ganimisetti Padmaja, hailing from Chimatavari Palem village in Andhra Pradesh's Bapatla district, has a deep passion for agriculture and a strong commitment to natural farming practices.
Her dedication has not only influenced numerous farmers to embrace chemical-free agriculture but has also raised awareness about the benefits of organic food. Padmaja's remarkable efforts have earned her the prestigious Jaivik Award in the best natural farming women category.
A 31-year-old farmer, Padmaja took a unique approach. Despite making good profits through conventional chemical-based farming, she recognized the importance of transitioning to natural farming for the sake of health.
Her journey into natural farming began in 2016 when officials from Rythu Sadhikaraka Samstha (RySS) introduced her to the process and advantages of natural farming. The loss of her loved ones further fueled her determination to prioritize health.
Starting with seed-to-seed, zero-budget farming on a 1-acre plot, Padmaja formulated her own organic fertilizers, including 'Ghanajeevamrutham' and 'Dravajeevamrutham,' using kitchen waste. Over seven years, she expanded her cultivation to 21 different crops across two acres of land using Pre-Monsoon Dry Sowing techniques.

Educating fellow farmers about the importance of maintaining soil health alongside growing healthy food was no easy task. Initially, she faced several challenges in making homemade fertilizers from cow dung and kitchen waste, but she persevered. Eventually, especially among women, interest in natural farming began to grow.
Through the increasing demand for organic products, Padmaja no longer needs to sell her goods in traditional markets. Instead, customers come directly to her farm to purchase her organic produce.

Reflecting on her Jaivik Award, Padmaja emphasized about her work. She never expected such national recognition but finds it encouraging for farmers like her who are dedicated to preserving soil health and providing wholesome food to their communities.
