In response to erratic monsoons impacting crops, Chhattisgarh extends the insurance cutoff for Kharif 2023. Horticulture farmers can apply for Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana until August 16.

Chhattisgarh's Modified Weather-Based Crop Insurance Scheme covers 7 horticulture crops: brinjal, chili, ginger, tomato, papaya, banana, and guava. State collaboration with the Agriculture Insurance Company of India facilitates coverage.

Farmers can apply for coverage until August 16 via insurance representatives. Authorized banks like National Bank, Regional Rural Bank, and Cooperative Bank simplify access to insurance benefits.

Chhattisgarh adopts weather-based metrics for gauging crop loss. Compensation for weather-induced damages and diseases is directly disbursed into farmers' accounts. Personal losses due to weather calamities are also now covered.

Economical Premiums for Farmers

For horticulture crops designated by the Chhattisgarh Government in the Bilaspur district's Kharif season, farmers will incur a 5% interest charge on the insurance premium rate. The weather-based crop insurance scheme encompasses horticulture crops grown across a minimum 150-hectare area in the district.

Chhattisgarh's Horticulture Department has set the insurance amount for tomatoes at Rs 1.20 lakh per hectare under the scheme, with a premium of Rs 6,000 per hectare. For Brinjal, the insurance amount is Rs 77,000 per hectare, and the farmer's contribution is Rs 3,850 per hectare. Guava coverage amounts to Rs 70,000 per hectare, with a farmer's contribution of Rs 3,500. Banana insurance is set at Rs 1.65 lakh per hectare, with a fixed contribution of Rs 8,250. Chilli insurance at Rs 90,000 per hectare requires a farmer's contribution of Rs 4,500, while ginger insurance at Rs 1.50 lakh per hectare involves a contribution of Rs 7,500.

Essential documents include an Aadhaar card, land certificate, bank passbook copy, and crop sowing certificate. Sharecroppers, tenants, and partner farmers can also insure crops with specific declarations.
